Carlos Boozer made a name for himself in the NBA as an elite rebounder and inside scorer. In his next act as a co-founder of Impeccable Capital, he joins Rob Tanner, Amit Sehgal and Jeff Postal in making a restaurant development and real estate play in two of the fastest-growing counties on the East Coast.
Boozer is among a host of pro athletes who see promise in franchising. From the NBA and NFL to the WNBA, MLB and even banana ball, these athletes are turning to a new page in their business playbooks. This story is part of a Franchise Times special feature on athletes in franchising, which appears in the April print edition of the magazine. Check out more stories here.
Carlos Boozer was never going to just sink into his sofa. After a 15-year professional basketball career during which he was a two-time NBA All-Star and won Olympic gold and bronze medals with Team USA, “retirement” wasn’t in his vocabulary.
“How do you pour everything into something so competitive, like basketball, and then just be a couch potato?” says Boozer. “I think for me, it was hard to just sit down. You got to keep moving. You retire at 35, 37 years old in the NBA, you still have your whole life in front of you. For me, I have so many interests.”
